Three-year-old Ohio-sired trotting colts had their turn in the spotlight at Miami Valley on Monday when five $17,500 divisions of Buckeye Stallion Series action took place. In the end, all five winners took new lifetime marks and earned valuable points towards qualifying for the $60,000 final at Hollywood Dayton Raceway in October.
Hustlenomics (Trevor Smith) overcame an outside post draw to win the first split in 1:56.2. Still On Gap (Tyler Smith) was the place finisher with Pine Rocket (Peter Wrenn) third across the finish line. Black Magic Racing owns the son of Full Count who is trained by Todd Luther. A $25,000 winner at age two, this success was Hustlenomics first score in four tries in 2022.
Creatine Star (Brett Miller) beat My Guy Wrapsitup (Darrell Wright) and Prince Of Sussex (Mike Wilder) in the second division. The 1:56.3 winner broke his maiden in his initial 2022 start, although the son of Creatine did bank $58,900 as a freshman. Carl Howard, Joyce McClelland and Larry Wills own Creatine Star and entrust his conditioning to Virgil Morgan, Jr.
Miller and Morgan, Jr. teamed up to win the next division with Surgeonemoretime, who sped to a 1:55.3 clocking to just eke out the victory over favoured All Gas No Brakes (Trevor Smith). The Jesmeral Stable owns the son of Uncle Peter, who got his first lifetime triumph in just his fifth lifetime start.
Uncle Leon gave Brett Miller his third B.S.S. win topping Said N Done AS (Tony Hall) and Striking Count (Dan Noble) in 1:56.1. Fresh off a maiden victory at Miami Valley, Uncle Leon is now two-for-two on the year. Dustin Arledge trains the son of Uncle Peter and co-owns with G. Clark, M. Thompson and T. Hoovler.
The final division was captured by Phantom Tom (Trace Tetrick) in 1:57 over Mo Bay (Chris Page) and Dirty Money (Mitch Cushing). It was the fourth win in his short career and boosted his earnings over $50,000. Scott Cox trains the son of Long Tom for owners Jughead Stables, G. Peters and David Lindsey.
A $30,000 Open Handicap Trot was also featured on the Monday program. Jeffery P (Mike Wilder) prevailed on the front end, holding off Predator And Prey (Josh Sutton) and Big City Pearl (LeWayne Miller) in the stretch. The 1:53.1 score was the 43rd of the seven-year-old’s outstanding career. Ron Burke trains and co-owns with Weaver Bruscemi and Phil Collura.
Racing resumes Tuesday afternoon when the Buckeye Stallion Series for sophomore pacing colts will highlight the program. Post time is 4:05 p.m.
