One hundred ten extra yards proved all the difference for Bop Too The Top ($10.50), who swept past favourite Gliding Senorita to capture Wednesday evening’s (May 2) featured event at The Raceway at Western Fair District, a $6,900 conditioned trotting event.
Bop Too The Top, who covered the mile-and-a-sixteenth journey in 2:05.4 in rein to Robert Shepherd, slipstreamed third-over cover behind 2-1 choice Gliding Senorita (Scott Coulter) through the middle stages of the race and following her three-wide advance with a quarter mile remaining. While Gliding Senorita succeeded in overtaking pacesetter Holiday Holly (Colin Kelly) upon entering the final turn, Bop Too The Top was poised to continue her ascent, just edging Gliding Senorita down the grandstand side. Eagle Scout (Dennis Duford) finished third.
Bop Too The Top, now a 14-time winner, keyed a 2-3-5-4-1 Super High Five which returned $1,337.68 on a 20-cent ticket. Evelyn Harms owns and trains the eight-year-old Muscle Mass mare.
