After powering to a 3-3/4 length score last week, Lawrence Snow’s Nameisonthehalter ($5.30) dug deep to hold his ground for a second straight win in the $1,250 featured winners-over pacing event on Saturday afternoon (May 19) at Northside Downs.
The four-year-old Brandons Cowboy gelding had no trouble achieving the early lead from pole position, and he dictated an unhurried pace through the first five-eighths of the one-mile journey. Well after rating a :59.2 initial half mile, Nameisonthehalter became subject to a stern first-over challenge from Truro invader Intended Royalty (Redmond Doucet), but remained unwavering as the pressure intensified on the final turn. Nameisonthehalter held sway to prevail by half a length over the odds-on Intended Royalty in 1:57.4, while Southwind Ricardo (Mark Pezzarello) checked in 2-3/4 lengths farther back in third after enjoying an easy pocket trip.
The win was the 18th of Nameisonthehalter’s career. For Snow, the featured win capped a training double and was the centrepiece of a driving hat trick. Gerard Kennedy led all drivers with four wins on the eight-race card.
