Just like the late comedian Rodney Dangerfield, Zorgwijk Fortunate is a trotter that seems to get no respect

.

Despite winning last week’s $12,800 Preferred-2 Trot at Grand River Raceway, Zorgwijk Fortunate was sent off as a 14-1 outsider in Tuesday’s quest to repeat in the top trotting class. And boy did he repeat!

The seven-year-old son of Wesgate Crown marched to the front for J.R. Plante and played a serious game of “catch me if you can” with eight other square-gaited foes. He led through panels of :29, :59.4 and 1:28.2 before stepping home in :30.4 to seal the deal in 1:59.1. Long Ago was second and Tymal Cherub was third.

Jim King conditions the 22-time winner for owner Mario Delgobbo of Maple, Ontario. It was Zorgwijk Fortunate’s fourth win in his last six starts, and the lion’s share of the purse lifted his overall bankroll $290,669.
