The second leg of the City Of London Pacing Series was contested through four $8,000 races at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Wednesday evening (May 17).
Steel Beauty took her second City Of London Series victory and her fourth win in a row with Travis Henry in the bike for the $8,000 division. The pair got away third with Write The Rules (Scott Young) on top and Hello Life (Tyler Borth) parked on the outside as they passed the quarter in :30. No changes were made to the order of the field as they passed the half in :59.3. At the three-quarters in 1:29, Hello Life faded into fourth and Miss Maycee (Colin Kelly) was on the move on the outside while Steel Beauty took over second. Down the stretch, Steel Beauty sprung into action and advanced to a 2-1/4 length victory in 1:57.4. Write The Rules was second and Miss Maycee finished third.
Steel Beauty is trained by Tim Myers for David Omicioli. Unraced as a freshman, the sophomore daughter of Bettors Delight now has seven wins in 12 career starts.
Troubles A Brewin and Anthony Haughan were the first to the front in the first set of series action for the boys and they never looked back through fractions of :29.2, 1:00 and 1:29.1. Maintaining their same cushioned lead throughout the mile, Troubles A Brewin won by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:58.2. Sky Low Low (Bradley Harris) finished second and Hugh Heff (Colin Kelly) finished third.
Anthony Beaton trains Troubles A Brewin for his third career victory. David Mercer co-owns the son of Betterthancheddar with Beaton.
Oh Gouda controlled the tempo in her division as trainer/driver Michael Horner led her from gate-to-wire in triumph. The Betterthancheddar daughter left out of the gate from the rail to grab the lead and set fractions of :28.1, :59.3 and 1:29.2 before winning by a neck in 1:58.3. Yoda Queen (Andy Moore) was second and Pink Monster (Scott Coulter) was third.
Mark Horner co-owns the winner of eight races in 15 starts with R A W Equine Inc.
In the final series contest on the card, Tyler Borth took Holy Jalapeno to a gate-to-wire victory through fractions of :29.3, 1:01 and 1:29.2 before winning by two lengths in 1:57.4. Crazy World (Garrett Rooney) finished second and Beach Tour (Michael Horner) was third.
The son of Betterthancheddar, Holy Jalapeno won his third career start for owner and trainer Kenneth Skinner.
