The first two-year-old winner of the 2013 racing season was registered on Thursday, May 16.

In a qualifying race at Vernon Downs, P L Haymaker left from the rail and converted a pocket trip into a neck win for trainer/driver Leslie Hale.

The Mach Three gelding owned by breeder Prince Lee Acres of Uxbridge, Ont. got covered up early and sat through fractions of :30.2, :59.4 and 1:28.2. The bay fired home in :28.3 to stop the clock in 1:57.1.

Two races later, another Prince Lee Acres-bred turned the trick as well. P L Hellcat, another son of Mach Three owned by Prince Lee Acres and steered by trainer Leslie Hale, recorded a whopping 27 and a half-length victory in 1:56 after racing on the front end.
