The betting public didn’t give Sonny Vale much of a chance to win Friday’s $7,350 Preferred 3 for trotters at The Raceway at Western Fair District, but that didn’t stop the veteran from pulling off a 20-1 upset for Team Belore.
Driven by Phil Belore and trained by Brent Belore, Sonny Vale got away sixth before making a three-wide move late in the mile en route to posting the win in 2:00.1 over Jamigo. Triple B Herbie rounded out the top three finishers in the nine-horse affair.
The 10-year-old son of Village Barrister-Sunshine Coast got into the win column for the second time this year – and for the 21st time in his career – for partners Patricia Duncan and Colleen Belore of Embro, Ontario. The winner’s share of the purse bumped his bankroll to $205,294.
