Ontario Harness Horse Association General Manager Brian Tropea has gone on the record regarding the $179.4 million figure that the Ontario Horse Racing Transitional Panel has recommended for provincial horse racing to receive over the next three years.
“When you consider that the industry was getting about $345 million per year (under the now-scrapped slots-at-racetrack program), then it looks fairly insignificant, especially when the fact that none of that money goes towards the horsepeople,” Tropea was quoted as saying in an article by the Flamboro Review.
“It looks like it’s not enough money to have a sustainable industry, certainly not at the level we are accustomed in Ontario,” he added
