Trotter Pricevalleyrevitup made his return appearance on Canadian soil a winning one in the featured $8,400 Preferred 2 after a winter campaign south of the border to close out Wednesday's harness racing card at Western Fair Raceway.
Pricevalleyrevitup had only a breaker beaten off the gate in a nine-horse field as he trailed the leader by 14 lengths through a :28.2 opening quarter. Favourite Indiana Hall (Anthony MacDonald) retook the lead from the leaving longshot Amigo Loco (Nick Steward) during the first panel, but Can I Say (Garrett Whelan) quickly swept up from third to take over command.
Can I Say led the field to the half in :58.1 and three-quarters in 1:28.4 before the popular Indiana Hall reclaimed the top spot yet again into the home stretch.
Meanwhile, driver Billy Davis Jr. had sent Pricevalleyrevitup three-wide from the backfield and began to close in on the persistent leader. The seven-year-old Revenue S gelding kicked home in :29.3 to nab the victory in the final strides by a neck over Indiana Hall, tripping the teletimer in 1:59.1. Logans Hero, driven by four-time Wednesday winner Trevor Henry, edged out Flashback (J.R. Plante) for third two and three-quarter lengths behind.
The winner paid $11.80 as the 9-2 third choice on the toteboard.
Pricevalleyrevitup is trained by Randy Marriage for owner Aden Peake of Ballinafad, Ont. He is now two-for-nine this year and boasts 31 victories on his lifetime record.
Earlier on the card, four-year-old Cool Creek Magic won the $5,600 Preferred 3 off the claim for Michael Wassilyn. Claimed for $10,000 by Wassilyn from his season's debut on April 9 at Western Fair, the Kadabra gelding rallied wide off a second over trip for a 1:58.3 victory in his first start for the Rockwood, Ont. horseman. Favourite Weskey (Tyler Borth) finished one and a quarter lengths behind over Oaklea Uptown (Jean Bernard Renaud). Cool Creek Magic paid $8.80 as the 3-1 second choice.
