On Monday, May 14 at Monticello Raceway, driver Lisa Krom captured the 10th annual Lady Godiva Pace with East Towner in a stakes record 1:59.4
. The race for female drivers had been postponed from its usual Valentine’s Day running.
Krom bided her time in the middle of the pack and then rallied to victory late with East Tower, a seven-year-old daughter of Artsplace that is trained by Sean Campbell. The win marked the second straight year Krom has won the Lady Godiva (she captured the 2011 installment with Allikait Fighter). East Tower returned $7.00 on a successful Win wager.
With her family there to cheer her on, Krom, of nearby Ellenville, New York, was understandably happy in the winner’s circle --- especially when her aunt and mother joined in the photo presentation.
“For somebody who doesn’t drive that often, I am extremely happy and to win two Lady Godivas in a row," she told Monticello's publicity department. "It's just icing on the cake.”
With her second Lady Godiva victory, Krom ties Jody Reidel who also won the ‘Race for the Chocolates’ twice (2003 and 2006).
