On Sunday, May 14, Dawn Ellis’ Goliath Reigns captured Truro Raceway’s featured $1,475 Winners Over Pace in 1:59.2, and in doing so extended his unbeaten streak to five.
Todd Trites lined up the Ellis trainee in Post 5 for Race 8, which featured a field of six combatants.
Sent off as the slight post-time second choice, Goliath Reigns was third through the opening quarter (:30.1) and half (1:00.3), as Heart And Soul (driven by Clare MacDonald) did the work up front.
Goliath Reigns was out and racing first-over in second place as Heart And Soul, who was sent off as the public’s choice, tripped the third timer in 1:29.4. Goliath Reigns still trailed by more than one length at the head of the lane, but he would be the one in the spotlight when all was said and done.
Goliath Reigns ($5.20), who is a six-year-old Goliath Bayama gelding, got up in the lane to score a one and a quarter-length win in 1:59.2. Surrealist, who raced second-over for driver Paul Langille, got up to finish second. Heart And Soul held on for third.
