Adkins Hanover was a repeat winner in the top $2,400 Preferred class at Red Shores at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday, although arch-rival Mr Irresistible made it a closer contest than last weekend.
In their fourth match-up of the meet, the rivals raced one-two throughout fractions of :27.3, :55.3 and 1:25.1 with Adkins Hanover and Corey MacPherson leading the way and ultimately holding off Mr Irresistible, driven by Jason Hughes, in the stretch for the 1:55.3 victory by three-quarters of a length. Instant Shadow and Gilles Barrieau followed in third.
A 13-length winner last week, Adkins Hanover now has two consecutive wins following a pair of runner-up finishes to Mr Irresistible. Trevor Hickens trains the eight-year-old Western Ideal-Allamerican Nadia gelding for owner Perry Burke.
Holy Molie Maggie continued her win streak in the $1,550 Open Handicap Trot which began at the end of the winter meet. Driven by Gary Chappell for trainer Jeff Holmes and co-owner Trevor MacDonald, the eight-year-old Holy Guacamolie-Proud Maggie mare defeated Neal, in rein to Brian Andrew, by nearly four lengths in 2:02.2 to earn her third straight victory.
