Three-year-old pacing filly The Joy Luck Club took her winning streak to Mohawk Racetrack and was victorious once again in the Friday night finale.
Following four consecutive victories at The Raceway at Western Fair District, The Joy Luck Club blew by her competition at Mohawk on Friday to take a new lifetime mark of 1:53.2 with Doug McNair catch-driving. The Camluck-Oh The Joy filly rallied off cover turning for home and went by the popular pacesetter American Sara (:28.1, :57.3, 1:25.3) with a :27.1 final frame, finishing three and a quarter lengths in front.
After going winless in 10 starts as a freshman, The Joy Luck Club has won eight of 11 races this year while pushing her earnings to $52,902 for trainer Mark Horner and his co-owner R A W Equine Inc.
The Joy Luck Club paid $8.40 to win as the 3-1 second wagering choice. American Sara held second as the 8-5 favourite after winning last time out, with Dawn Shooter, at odds of 25-1, finishing third ahead of 4-1 Norcross Blue Chip and 38-1 longshot Queen Ideal. That top five finish order led to a $166,060.59 Jackpot Hi-5 carryover.
