Keith Pippi's Traverse Seelster ($3, Ross Wolfenden) was an impressive 1:55 winner in the $16,000 Open Trot at Harrington Raceway on Wednesday.
Traverse Seelster seized control early from Spunky Jack in an opening quarter in :28.2. Traverse Seelster then led the field of five to a half-mile in :58 seconds and three-quarters in 1:27.1. The venerable seven-year-old Angus Hall gelding then drew off effortlessly in the stretch for a dominating score over Spunky Jack. Powerful Charger closed late for third.
The win was the first in four 2015 starts for the Josh Green-trained Traverse Seelster, who added to his healthy lifetime bankroll of nearly $640,000. The all-aged track record holder for trotters, Traverse Seelster had been second in his previous three starts.
Victor Kirby had four wins on the program. Allan Davis, Tony Morgan and Ross Wolfenden each had two wins.
