Victory Creed etched his name in the record books at Sudbury Downs on Saturday night with a career-best 1:54.1 winning effort in a $10,000 conditioning race

The time of the mile tied Anderlecht's track record for older pacing stallions, established in 2009. The seven-year-old son of Artiscape, trained and driven by Jason Ryan, sat mid-pack for most of the mile while favourite Shiny Mach (Mike MacNeill) maintained a solid lead on the field of six through fractions of :27.4, :56.2 and 1:24.4. However, Victory Creed unleashed a :28.1 final frame to come on for the three-quarter length triumph over the pacesetter. Early trailer Daddy Warbucks (Gerry Belanger) came on for third.

Victory Creed paid $16.60 for the mild 7-1 upset. Sudbury's Anthony Artuso claimed the pacer for $10,000 on January 19 at Flamboro Downs after a pair of wins. He has since won two more times in 2012 for his new connections, putting his lifetime win count at 23 and career bankroll at $116,254.
