Travis Cullen's Hes Got Swagger ($5.20) lived up to his name in the Mother's Day (Sunday, May 12) feature at The Raceway at Western Fair District, bottoming out seven rivals in the featured $10,400 Preferred 3 Pace.
The four-year-old Vintage Master gelding was sent to early command from post 5 by his owner, and the pair led every step of the mile-and-a-sixteenth race with nary a challenger. After posting early splits of :27.4, :57 and 1:28, Hes Got Swagger sprinted off through the final turn, putting six lengths of clearance on even-money favourite Rockin In Heaven (J Harris), who stalked from an earned pocket after initially leaving from post 7.
While Hes Got Swagger was able to leave Rockin In Heaven well in his wake at the eighth pole, late threats came in the form of the first-over The Loan Ranger (Ryan Holliday) and Adore Him (Scott Young), who circled wide off the home turn. Hes Got Swagger held clear under vigorous urging and reported home 2-1/4 lengths the best in 2:05.3. Adore Him closed willingly down the grandstand side to take second, a half-length better than The Loan Ranger.
Hes Got Swagger, trained by Jodie Cullen, earned his third win of the season and the 18th of his career.
