Ranger Gus scored his second consecutive victory in the $10,000 Open Trot at Buffalo Raceway Friday night
(May 11). The win was the fifth this season in 15 attempts for Ranger Gus, who went over the $100,000 mark in lifetime earnings.
Ranger Gus ($15.60), dismissed by the bettors at 6-1, and driven by reinsman Kevin Cummings, shot right to the lead from post three and set all the fractions in the race (:31.1, 1:01, and 1:31.3). A :29.2 last quarter-mile put the 2:01 winner half a length ahead of second place finisher Baileys Magic and Jim McNeight at the finish line. Yonkers invader Rodeo Red, driven by Keith Kash Jr., came in third.
The five-year-old Dukes Ranger gelding is trained by Lisa Lederhouse and owned by Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel, James Reuther, and Jerry Dedoszak. The $5,000 winner's share of the purse put Ranger Gus’s season bankroll at $33,190 and lifetime earnings at $103,239.
