Winning races is something Clear Idea did on a regular basis during a terrific sophomore season in 2017, but coming into Friday’s assignment in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park she was 0-for-9 to begin the year.
James MacDonald tripped out the four-year-old daughter of American Ideal-Glass Maker in the Friday evening feature, and she did the rest en route to getting the monkey off her back.
Clear Idea left the gate hard and had the field chasing her past the quarter pole in :26.2. Witch Dali pocket-popped on the leader going into the backstretch, and she quickly muscled her way to the top.
Witch Dali sliced out middle panels of :55.1 and 1:24 before being pulled on by Clear Idea. The Blake MacIntosh trainee summoned up a final quarter of :27.2 to win by 3-1/4 lengths over Lay Lady Lay in 1:51.2. Bettors Up escaped late in her 2018 debut and wound up finishing a traffic troubled third.
MacIntosh owns the career winner in excess of $400,000 with Hutt Racing Stable of Paoli, PA. The 11-time winner now boasts a 1-4-0 record from 10 trips to the track this season.
