After a disappointing trip to Woodbine Mohawk Park on May 7, April Rose trekked to Flamboro Downs and came away victorious in the half-miler’s top trot for Team Hensley during Thursday’s 10-race card.
April Rose, in rein to co-owner Ed Hensley, was treated to a two-hole trip in the $11,500 Preferred 2 event behind Muscle Matters who front-stepped the field through fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:26.1. April Rose went on the attack in the late going and used a :29.4 closing quarter to prevail by three-quarters of a length over Muscle Matters in 1:56.2. Seeyou Men was third in the six-horse affair.
Sent off as the even-money favourite, the six-year-old daughter of SJs Caviar-Show Me The Bling won for the fifth time this season for co-owner/trainer Ashleigh Hensley. The 19-time winner boosted her overall bankroll to $277,774 in the process.
Pollar Hall used the same type of trip to find his way to victory lane in the $8,500 Preferred 3 for trotters.
Bruce Richardson treated the gelding to a garden trip behind Waikiki Hanover who sped the field through panels of :28.2, :58 and 1:27. Pollar Hall used a closing quarter of :30.4 to notch the win by a neck over Waikiki Hanover in 1:58. Taking home third prize was Angels Kid.
The five-year-old son of Amigo Hall-North To Alaska, who races for owner/trainer/breeder Kevin Davidson, now owns a 2-1-3 record from 12 trips to the track this season. The 13-time winner upped his lifetime earnings to $84,246 with the victory.
