With four months of the harness racing calendar complete, Trot Insider provides an update on the national leaderboard for drivers and trainers.
Canada's reigning Driver of the Year, James MacDonald continues to lead the way on the driving side for earnings, but a rare Saturday night off has allowed Travis Henry to break the tie from 24 hours ago. Both drivers had 116 seasonal wins as of April 29, but Henry's win last night at Flamboro Downs gives him 117 for the season and top spot on the dash leaderboard. MacDonald will resume action on Monday (May 2) at Woodbine Mohawk Park with 116 wins while Brett MacDonald's 107 seasonal tallies is third best.
On the earnings side, MacDonald's 2022 bankroll of $1,753,396 on Canadian soil leads the way, with Doug McNair ($1,550,822) and Louis-Philippe Roy ($1,213,254) next best in the nation after four months completion.
Guy Gagnon leads the way in the URDS category sporting a solid 0.492 average heading into tonight's card at Rideau Carleton Raceway. Gagnon leads Phil Giesbrecht (0.428) and Brandon Campbell (0.425) among Canadian reinsmen in this category.
Carmen Auciello maintains the lead in the trainer standings on the earnings side with his stable amassing $1,343,768 in purses. Richard Moreau, Canada's nine-time Trainer of the Year, ranks second with $1,184,664 in earnings. On the wins ledger, the trainers trade places. Moreau now sports 81 Canadian wins on the season, just ahead of Auciello (79) Jodie Cullen's stable ranks third in each category, 50 wins and $584,548 in earnings.
Brandon Campbell boasts a 0.450 leading UTRS with Tyler Nostadt (0.446) and Kelly Hoerdt (0.422) rounding out the top three.
