Elizabeth Fair's Lady Caterina ($3.90) looked every bit the odds-on favourite she was dispatched in Wednesday's (May 1) $9,400 Preferred 3 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District, making easy work of her four rivals in the featured event.
Marc St. Louis sent the seven-year-old daughter of Holiday Road clear of the pole-sitting Hldontghttoyrudrms (Alfie Carroll) through a :28.3 first quarter before rating middle splits of :59.2 and 1:28.3. On the final turn, Lady Caterina left Hldontghttoyurdrms well in her wake, amassing four lengths of clearance at the eighth pole. She remained uncontested to the winning post, completing her 1:58.4 mile 2-1/2 lengths better than Nebraska Jack (Tyler Borth), who rallied into second. Euro Classic (Robert Shepherd) narrowly took third over the fading Hldontghttoyurdrms, whole Avuncular (Scott Coulter) was last of the quintet throughout the entire mile.
Lady Caterina, a 19-time winner, earned her fourth win of the season for trainer Alan Fair.
