With a big score in the last race, Joe Bohnarczyk walked away with the $2,000 USD grand prize after winning Meadowlands Racetrack's $5,000 USD live money handicapping contest on Saturday, April 6.
Bohnarczyk saved his best for last, connecting in the 14th dash with a $6 win ticket on Ferragamo Hanover (who paid $30.60) and a $10 exacta 1-2 ($211.20). His final bankroll was $1,147.80.
Ian MacIntosh led most of the way after hitting for $759 in Race 4 with a $10 win bet on Swimwiththecurrent and a $5 exacta 3-6. He finished in second place with $831.
Russ Slader took home third and fifth-place prize monies and John Vernaglia took fourth.
The prize payouts were $2,000 USD for first, $1,250 USD for second, $1,000 USD for third, $500 USD for fourth and $250 USD for fifth.
The Meadowlands will offer two more upcoming handicapping contests.
On Saturday, May 18, Meadowlands will host the $10K Free To Play Contest. The contest is open to anyone over 18 years of age and offers a $10,000 USD total prize pool, with prize payouts to the top 10 finishers. There is no entry fee. The contest format requires players to make a mythical $2 across-the-board wager on one horse in Races 2-11 at Meadowlands. The winner is the contestant that amasses the largest mythical bankroll from their selections.
On Saturday, June 8, another live money contest with a $5,000 USD prize pool will be fully funded by Meadowlands. Based on the positive feedback received, the contest format will allow win, place, show and straight exacta wagering. There is no entry fee, though a $100 USD live money bankroll is required.
