Making the fourth start of her career, Sporty Tori popped off the rail and circled wide into the stretch to win her third consecutive race courtesy of a 2:00 mile in a $7,400 conditioned pace on Tuesday, April 9 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
The three-year-old daughter of Sportswriter, readying for the City of London Series starting next month, debuted on March 12 over a sloppy track and finished second at 15-1 from off the pace. She followed the second-place finish with a seven-length score as the even-money favourite in 2:01 and returned the next week with a two-length win as the odds-on choice.
Positioned third to a :30.3 opening quarter, Sporty Tori sat at the rail as Arya Stark, from seventh, rushed first over towards the leader approaching a 1:01.3 half. Arya Stark soon engaged with pacesetter Sunshine Inn and matched strides past a 1:30.4 third quarter.
Trainer-driver Gorden McKnight angled off the rail into the final turn and rode Arya Stark's cover before fanning wide into the stretch and edging to a head victory over pocket-slipping Mostly Dali. Sunshine Inn settled for third.
A homebred for M&S Racing Stable Inc., Sporty Tori has compiled $11,825 in earnings. She returned $6.00 to win.
