Killean Cut Kid (Brandon Campbell) took command of the field and carved out fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:25 while Cash Account (Carl Sibiga) advanced first over from fifth. As the field turned for home, Beach Boy Toy and trainer-driver David Hudon took advantage of the passing lane. The six-year-old son of Artiscape-Good Vibrations wore down the pacesetter to score by a half-length in 1:53.4. Favourite Wrangler Hitech (Keith Clark) finished one length behind in third with Cash Account fourth.
Beach Boy Toy paid $29.10 for the upset. The winner of two races in 11 seasonal starts is owned by Bill Boden of Vancouver, B.C. The win was lucky No. 13 for the bay gelding, who has banked over $230,000 lifetime.
