Trevor Henry mapped out a beautiful trip for Waasmula in Friday’s $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap at Mohawk Racetrack, and the homebred parlayed it into a winning effort.
The Bruce Goit-trained Waasmula left for position when the gate sped away, and she managed to drop right into the two-hole behind Witch Dali. That foe chopped out fractions of :26.3, :56 and 1:24.4 before being overtaken by the late-driving Waasmula. Ms Mac N Cheese put first-over pressure on Witch Dali around the final turn, and Waasmula gobbled up the pair of them in the closing strides after their lengthy battle. Waasmula halted the teletimer in 1:52.3 defeating Witch Dali and Ms Mac N Cheese.
Owned and bred by Brent Vincent of Allenford, Ont., Waasmula won for the second time in 10 tries this season. The 25-time winner pushed her lifetime earnings past $750,000 in the process.
