Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the Rideau Carleton Raceway on Monday (April 7) afternoon after an unnamed male set himself on fire in one of the parking lots.
A report by the Ottawa Citizen states that witnesses tried to extinguish the flames and that the man suffered second and third-degree burns to 90 per cent of his body.
The article explains that the man was rushed to the burn unit at The Ottawa Hospital. Another report on the situation states that the man was then airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and is in critical condition in the burn unit.
Neither report has divulged the name of the individual. A motive is not known at this time.
