Favourite Pretty Handsome yielded the lead early before retaking command and holding the throttle through the wire to take the $11,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, April 7.
The four-year-old Mach Three gelding pushed for position from the rail post while Fashiononthebeach, starting from the outermost post in the quintet, swept towards the lead heading to a :28 opening quarter. Pretty Handsome soon moved back to the lead heading to a :56.2 half and continued on the point through a 1:25.2 third quarter. He rolled into the stretch under wraps in progress to a 1:53.4 while Fashiononthebeach took second and Hes Got Swagger finished third.
Owned by Glenview Livestock Ltd., Pretty Handsome won his third race from seven starts this season and his 16th from 27 overall, earning $172,100. Andrew McCabe conditions the $2.90 winner and Jonathan Drury sat in the bike.
Later on the card, Majestic Kat kicked to the front and led every step to take the $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap Trot in 1:57.2. Driver Billy Davis Jr. shot the Maria Rice trainee to the lead, pocketing Majestic Brayden into a :28.3 opening quarter.
Unchallenged through a :58.2 half, Majestic Kat endured minor pressure from Noble Legend heading to a 1:28 third quarter but easily turned away the challenge swinging into the stretch. The five-year-old daughter of Majestic Son strolled to a one-and-three-quarter length victory over Majestic Brayden while Willyorwonthe closed for third.
Winning her third race from eight starts this season and her 14th from 63 overall, Majestic Kat races for owners Vogel And Wags Nags Stable, Jack Rice and Pine Hill Racing Ltd. She paid $3.40 to win.
