The 2016 Mohawk racing season launched Thursday night and driver Trevor Henry made an early statement with a driving grand slam.
Henry got his night off to a great start by guiding three-year-old pacing gelding Levy Taylore to victory in the opening race of the meet. The Arthur, Ontario native went on to score three more victories for four total on the 10-race card.
Henry’s other three wins came behind trotting mare Townline Momma, trotting filly Wanaka and pacing gelding Likeavirgin.
Henry entered the Mohawk meet second in the driver standings with 63 wins. His four-win night brings him to within three wins of leader Sylvain Filion.
The other six-races on the opening night card were won by six different drivers, while ten different trainers scored opening night victories.
The start of the Mohawk meet also featured a new look for fans and horseplayers watching the simulcast feed. The Woodbine Broadcast department unveiled a slick new graphics package. The new look will now be used at both Mohawk and Woodbine.
A solid crowd was on hand to open the meet and the first 250 fans to come through the doors received a free program. The free program promotion will continue Saturday evening and fans will also receive a coupon for a free coffee.
Live racing continues Friday night at Mohawk. Post time is 7:30 p.m.
