Despite an outside post position, Rock Allstar made the lead early on and never looked back en route to winning the $12,500 Open Pace on the last Sunday of live racing for the 2012/2013 season at Fraser Downs.
The consistent pacer, who has finished first or second in 10 of his 11 starts this year, is trained and owned by William Young of Langley, B.C.
In the featured ninth race, three-time Sunday winner Jim Marino and Rock Allstar fired off the gate from post eight and cleared to command at the :27.4 first quarter mark over favourite Beach Boy Toy (David McKellar). They led the field of nine through middle fractions of :56.4 and 1:25.4 with Nobody Can (Serge Masse) looming first over. But Nobody Can only made it up to Rock Allstar's saddle pad before he took off around the final turn. Rock Allstar opened up a pair of lengths into the stretch and cruised home for the 1:55.2 score over the sloppy surface. Beach Boy Toy finished second in the passing lane while Dealers Edge (Scott Knight) rallied home for third.
Rock Allstar paid $7.20 to win as the 5-2 second choice. Entrymate Crown Isle (J.F. Gagne) finished fifth.
The six-year-old Rocknroll Hanover-Timeisonyourside gelding surpassed the $100,000 earnings mark with his 24th career triumph.
Live racing will continue at Fraser Downs on Friday and Saturday evenings for the next five weeks.
