Making his local debut, Saturday showed he's also good on Sunday with his impressive win in the $10,000 Preferred Trot on April 6 card at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Driven by Guy Gagnon, the 2-5 favourite Saturday asserted early control of the field before 15-1 outsider Southern Russian (Stephane Pouliot) applied pressure through brisk early fractions—:27.4 to the quarter, :56.2 to the half and 1:25.2 to the three-quarter pole. Undeterred, Saturday executed a perfect pocket trip, tipped out around the final turn and powered clear to score in 1:55.1 by 3-1/4 lengths. Southern Russian held on gamely for second, while Tyrone Bow Tie (Ryan Guy) rounded out the top three.
Trained by Mandy Archer, Saturday is a four-year-old gelded son of Muscle Mass–Spirit Of Casey owned by Jamie Copley of Kenmore, Ont., and Kimberly Eaton of Brockville, Ont. The win was his first of the season and eighth overall, bringing his 2025 earnings to $10,430 and lifetime total to $84,880.
Archer also teamed up with driver Robert Shepherd to notch four additional wins on the 12-race card, with victories aboard TH Rita Lou ($6.70, 2:00.1), Arson Seelster ($2.30, 1:56.1), Speaker Nancy ($5.40, 1:55.1) and Logan Behold ($5.40, 1:54.2).
Archer now leads the local trainer standings with eight wins and $37,898 in 2024 earnings. Her career earnings have climbed to $2,617,169.
