The 2009 Saint John Harness Horsemen's Association Awards Banquet set for later this month will feature as its guest speaker one of the most recognizable voices in all of harness racing

Ken Warkentin, best known as a TV host and one of the announcers at The Meadowlands Racetrack, will not only be the guest speaker for the banquet but will also call the races at Exhibition Park on the afternoon of Saturday, April 17 prior to the banquet set for Saturday night at the Coastal Inn Fort Howe Hotel in Saint John.
"Bob MacNeil, President of the Saint John Harness Horsemen's Association, contacted me," Warkentin told Trot Insider. "Obviously, I’m flattered and honoured to be invited, excited and looking forward to visiting a beautiful part of my homeland."
Warkentin, who started calling races back in 1982 at Flamboro Downs, will also be meeting and greeting horsemen and fans.
"I also can’t wait to meet those friendly Maritimers who love the sport," continued Warkentin. "I know it’s going to be a good time!"
The night starts at 6:00 p.m., with a Meet and Greet (Cocktails) and viewing of Silent Auction Items. Dinner, a roast chicken breast 3-course meal, follows at 7:30 with awards presentations following the dinner. A list of available silent auction items will be posted prior to the Banquet.
