Returning to action from a three-month layoff, an overlooked Outlaw Sharktastic was a 20-1 upset winner in the featured $12,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Century Downs for trainer/driver Nathan Sobey.
Blasting off the gate from the outside post, Outlaw Sharktastic crossed to command before the opening turn and carved out fractions of :29.1, :58.1 and 1:26.4 while keeping clear of her rivals en route to victory in 1:55.3 over the 'good' track. Jakara followed two lengths behind from the pocket for catch-driver Brandon Campbell while 6-5 favourite If Only Id Known and David Kelly settled for third after a first-over backstretch bid.
The second longest shot on the board in the field of seven (two scratches), Outlaw Sharktastic returned $43.30 for a $2 win ticket.
Sobey also co-owns Outlaw Sharktastic with Glenda Winkleman of Edmonton, Alta., and Glenn Pinel of Calgary, Alta. The six-year-old Smart Shark-Outlaw Alleyesonme mare now sports a dozen victories on her lifetime record with earnings just shy of the $130,000 mark.
