Ridge Jumper snuck out of the pocket late to rally for an upset win in Tuesday night’s $25,000 Open Pace for fillies and mares at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

.

Leaving from post position five in a field of six as a 13-1 shot, Ridge Jumper, a seven-year-old mare from the barn of Lou Pena, was sent for the early lead by driver Brandon Simpson but didn’t press when she was passed by two other horses. The mare moved from third to second on the backstretch and, in the home stretch, outpaced 1-5 favourite, Ideal Newton, to the line by a half-length for the win in 1:52:3. Mcflirty finished third.

Ridge Jumper, sired by Ironridge, won for the fifth time in 10 tries this season. The victory was the 27th of her career. She has banked in excess of $376,000 to date.
