.

Bruce Richardson hustled Miss Maverick to immediate command from her pole position starting spot, and she had the field playing a game of follow the leader to the quarter pole in :28.2. She was confronted by Misty Moonstone at the mid-way point in :58.2 and they continued their battle all the way across the backstretch.

In fact, Misty Moonstone gained a short lead while sitting outside of Miss Maverick as they raced past the three-quarter pole in 1:26.4. Miss Maverick countered at the rail, however, coming off the final turn and used a :30.2 final panel to win by a head over a hard-closing Call Me Yours.
