Much to the delight of the favourite players, Trust The Artist cruised to a two-length score as the 4-5 choice in Sunday’s feature race
– the $12,000 Open Pace – at Fraser Downs.
It was the fourth win of the season for the five-year-old son of Real Artist, who was a convincing winner in a sharp clocking of 1:53.1 for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt.
Trust The Artist worked his way into a two-hole trip behind Kiawah, who had eight rivals lined up behind at the quarter pole in :27.3. It didn’t take long, however, for Hoerdt to pull the trigger on his charge.
Trust The Artist popped off the pylons in front of the grandstand and cleared to the top without any type of a tussle. Once in command he threw down middle splits of :57.2 and 1:25 before finishing off his foes with a :28.1 final frame. Kiawah held for the runner-up spot and El Rancho Relaxo finished third.
Hoerdt shares ownership on the 24-time winner with his Beaumont, AB partners - Blair Corbeil and Mike McAllister. The victory bumped the pacer’s 2009 earnings to $33,240 and it lifted his lifetime bankroll to $364,537.
