Tyrone Bow Tie established a new lifetime mark with a hard-fought victory in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Wednesday, April 30.

At the start, Impressive Dude (Guy Gagnon) sprinted to the lead, with 3-5 favourite Emma Town Bud (Pierre Bovay) settling into the pocket and driver Ryan Guy tucking Tyrone Bow Tie into third. The opening quarter was clocked in :28.1, and the half came in a sharp :57.1. As the field moved down the backstretch, Impressive Dude began to open up. The three-quarters flashed in 1:25.2, and around the final turn, Tyrone Bow Tie tipped off the pylons and launched his bid.

Unaware of the danger looming behind him, Impressive Dude braced for the stretch drive—but Tyrone Bow Tie surged late and wore him down in the final strides to win by a neck in 1:54.2, which now stands as Canada's fastest trotting mile this year on a five-eighths mile track. Impressive Dude held on gamely for second, while Emma Town Bud finished third off a pocket trip. A $2 win ticket returned $18.50.

The five-year-old gelded son of Lookslikeachpndale out of Risk Seeker is trained by Mike Armstrong for owners Cynthia Graham of Warkworth, Ont., Marc Mailloux of Windsor, Ont., and Gillian Keating of Courtenay, B.C. The win marked the first Preferred-level score of the season for Tyrone Bow Tie, his second win of 2025, and the sixth victory of his career. He now boasts seasonal earnings of $16,066 and lifetime earnings of $74,491.
