Odds On Lauderdale took home the gold in the $23,973 featured District 9 Pace with Brett Beckwith in the bike at Plainridge Park on Tuesday, April 30.
North America’s second leading dash driver was at it again on Tuesday; after winning four races at The Ridge on Monday, April 29, Beckwith bounced right back with another grand slam performance to push his meet-leading win total to 24.
Beckwith’s most notable win came with Odds On Lauderdale, who left from post eight and grabbed the lead on the outside from Tuapeka Trick N (Kevin Switzer Jr.) as they passed the quarter in :26.2. Odds On Lauderdale then paced comfortably on the lead with Tuapeka Trick N sitting second, and only received a minor challenge from Miki U So Fine (Mitchell Cushing) approaching three-quarters.
As they headed into the turn, Tuapeka Trick N popped the pocket and took dead-aim at the leader. After drawing even at the head of the stretch, Tuapeka Trick N and Odds On Lauderdale paced side by side and stride for stride, all the way to the wire. But try as he did, Tuapeka Trick N was not able to overtake Odds On Lauderdale, who hung on by a neck in 1:52.2.
Odds On Lauderdale ($10.40), owned and trained by Mike Eaton, earned his third win in a row and a season's best clocking.
Beckwith completed his foursome with Social Drinker (1:55.4, $3.60), King Spencer (1:53.1, $3.40) and Paddy All Day (1:55.3, $17). "Brett The Jett" also had a second and three thirds from his nine drives, giving him a sparkling one day UDR of .543.
The Wicked Hi-5 was hit in the day’s ninth race. The single unique winning combination of 8-5-6-4-7 returned $5,869.12 for a 20-cent wager.
Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Thursday, May 2 with post time at 4 p.m.
