Trainer Kelly Hoerdt landed a hat trick on the 13-race card at Century Downs on Saturday (April 30), which included a sixth-consecutive victory by Codename Cigar Box at the track’s top class.

In the $10,500 featured pace, Codename Cigar Box sat off the speed while Samba Beat sped to a :26.1 first quarter and slowed to a :55.3 half. Hoerdt then hustled Codename Cigar Box out of fifth and cruised to the point up the backstretch and took the field by three-quarters in 1:24. From there, the four-year-old Custard The Dragon gelding coasted clear of his competition to post a 5-1/4-length victory in 1:52.2 over Crackle N Burn. Tiempo Hanover finished third and Munchie Chris took fourth.

Co-owned by Hoerdt with Fred Gilbert and Blair Corbeil, Codename Cigar Box won his sixth race from 12 starts this season and his 14th from 37 overall. He has now banked $206,343 and paid $3.30 to win.

Hoerdt’s other victories came earlier on the card. He also piloted his pupils Chaste Forever ($3.10) and Juliogetthestretch ($2.80) to victory.
