Truro Raceway will be making an operational change for its 2023 harness racing season as it pertains to Post 8 at the Nova Scotia half-mile racetrack.
Traditionally Post 8 was the far outside post, with the horses going eight-wide on the starting gate. The track is moving Post 8 to be in the second tier or trailer position.
“We think this change will allow the horse that draws Post 8 to win on a more consistent basis, which is good for competitiveness reasons and makes the horse more playable in terms of wagering," said Steve Fitzsimmons, General Manager at Truro Raceway. "It’s a formation I’m quite well acquainted with and I’m sure horsepeople and bettors will all appreciate this change."
The change will be in overnight races only for 2023 and will not affect stakes races at the facility, as conditions in 2023 are already out for those, which mandates eight horses on the gate.
Truro Raceway's 2023 season is scheduled to begin on Sunday, May 7.
