At just 20 years old, Patrick Shepherd took over the title as Canada's leading percentage trainer this year with a triple Wednesday night at Flamboro Downs.
Fresh off a victory on the ice in the annual Horsemen's Hockey Tournament, driver J.R. Plante teamed up with Shepherd for three wins on the track. The maiden-breaking sophomore trotter Baskin Dream ($5.70) and repeating four-year-old pacer Sgt Matt ($6.20) went back-to-back winning the fifth and sixth races on the card for the duo. Four-year-old trotting mare Alana Banana ($3) later took a new mark in the ninth.
Amidst a career-best season, Shepherd has won 25 races in 81 starts for a win percentage of 0.471.
