Evm Racing's Big Chic Magnet ($21.80, Jim Morand) was a narrow winner in the $30,822 Open Handicap Pace on Monday, April 29 at Harrington Raceway in 1:53.3.
The six-year-old Big Jim gelding rallied four-wide and edged out a flurry of horses in a blanket finish at the wire for his fourth win of the year in 14 starts. It was the 16th career victory for Mike Rossi trainee Big Chic Magnet, who pushed his career bankroll to $191,718 with the victory. On The Cards N was placed second and Itsrockandroll A third. Live Love Lindy finished second but was disqualified and placed sixth for interference on the first turn.
One race earlier on the card, Effingham reeled off his third consecutive victory on the season against $61,644 claiming company. Driven by Allan Davis for trainer Brendan Davis, Effingham scored in front-end fashion, stopping the clock in 1:53. Owned by Moni Talks LLC, the five-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding has now scored five victories on the year and 16 for his career.
Montrell Teague, Pat Berry and Allan Davis each had driving triples on the 15-race card while Jim Morand brought in a double.
Live harness racing will continue on a Monday through Wednesday schedule (post time 4:30 p.m.) at Harrington Raceway.
