Maritimer Triumphant In Top Truro Pace

Edged out by just a neck last week in the Winners Over Pace, 2011 Island Breeders Championship winner Maritimer earned the first victory of her aged career on Sunday in the top pace at Truro Raceway

Maritimer ($9.60) and driver Henry Smallwood advanced to the lead after the :29.4 opening quarter mark and led the rest of the way past fractions of :58.4 and 1:28.2 en route to a 1:58.4 triumph by one and a half lengths in the $1,225 feature. St Lads Dagwood and Ernest Laffin rallied from the backfield to place ahead of first over challenger King Of Kingston with Darren Crowe in the bike.

A multiple stakes winner at three, Maritimer put together a record reading 10-2-4 in 17 starts while banking $44,276 in trainer George Rennison's care. The Full Scholarship-Country Chill miss ventured to Ontario at the end of her sophomore campaign and returned to Nova Scotia where she is now trained by Nicholas White for owner Barbara Pearl of Hants Co, N.S. The victory was her first in five aged starts.

Trainer Blair Laffin posted the most wins on the day with Ernest Laffin driving the maiden-breaking Knight Mission ($2.90) and 19-length victor Beer Drinkin Pro ($18.30), and Robert Laffin scoring with veteran mare Lady Gi Gi ($6.70).
