Arch Villain Wins April Showers Final

Arch Villain pushed his win streak to five with a two length tally in the $28,050 April Showers Series final on Sunday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway

. The series is for male pacers that are non-winners of $30,000 lifetime as of Dec. 31, 2011.

After a :28.3 opening quarter, driver Simon Allard sent heavy favourite Arch Villain after the lead from fourth and posted the half in :57. He proceeded to three-quarters in 1:25.4 and extended his leading margin to two lengths down the stretch before hitting the wire in 1:54.2. The five-year-old bay gelding paid $2.80 to win.

Battle Call and John MacDonald advanced first over into second with Frankies Dragon and Yves Filion following their cover to edge out early leader Perfekjenlmnkalfas and Gord Brown in third.

The win was Arch Villain's ninth in 14 seasonal starts and pushed his 2012 earnings to $46,340. The son of The Panderosa and Luv R Diamonds, who won his first two opening leg divisions of the series before sitting out in round three, is co-owned by trainer Rene Allard and the Regency Group Stable LLC of Woodridge, New Jersey.

The win was one of three on the card for Simon Allard. Driver Denis St Pierre won the most races Sunday scoring in one-third of the 15 dashes.
