Two-Time Governor's Plate Champ To Return

Published: April 29, 2011 07:20 pm EDT

Outlawpositivcharg, who won the Governor’s Plate in 2008 and 2009, will make his first start of the 2011 season Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park

. Post time for the 12-race card is 6 p.m.

The Fred Lamont-owned pacer will leave from Post 6 for trainer-driver Terry Gallant against Blue Star Outlaw, who won the feature race last week after shutting down the front end, and Matt Trapper, a winner of 2:00.1 with a final quarter of :28.3 during the opening race card just a few weeks ago for driver Brian Andrew. There will be none of that this week. The seven-year-old gelding can leave when he wants to and that puts him as the 5-2 morning line favourite.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac says Outlawpositivcharg is the one to beat. “His record the past few years speaks for itself,” said the host of Racing Tips in the program. “His rivals have all begun their season while this guy makes his first start, but he's still clearly the one to beat with anything close to his best.”

Outlawpositivcharg, a three-time Horse of the Year at the Prince County Horsemen’s Club Awards, romped in his first qualifier of the season on April 23, winning by 18 lengths in 2:00.4.

Armbro Dandelion, trained by Stacey Lund, has finished second in her last two starts since re-locating from Ottawa. Gary Chappell will do the driving while heavy hitters Life Savior (Marc Campbell) and Instant Fancy (Mark Bradley) complete the power-packed field.

This is the last race card before Canada’s best compete in the National Driving Championship, presented by RDMD Refrigeration, next Saturday, May 7. Post time is 6 p.m. Charlottetown native Kenny Arsenault, the winner of the Atlantic Regional Driving Championship back in January, will suit up against Gilles Barrieau, Brandon Campbell, Dave Hudon, Mario Charron, Sylvain Lecaille, Jody Jamieson and Trevor Henry.

The event will also carry the famous Kentucky Derby complete with Derby menu, specials and in-house promotion for ladies and gentleman wearing their favourite Derby hats. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed.

The action will be carried live at www.harnessracingpei.com.
