A confident first-up move for John Thomson's longshot pacer Aqua Powered was the winning move in Tuesday's $12,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Kawartha Downs
.
The eight-year-old Water Tower gelding launched his outside attack against pacesetter Royel Rookie (Kevin Austin) before the midway point of the race and eventually gutted out a determined and driving away 1:54.1 win over favoured Foxy Move (Simon Allard) by two and one-half lengths. Winning Breed (Brad Rae) finished third.
Thomson co-owns Aqua Powered with Eleanor Barker of Carrying Place, Ont. A winner of only one in 17 starts in 2008, Aqua Powered is now two-for-nine in 2009, boasting 27 lifetime wins and over $275,000 in purses.
