Veteran announcer and race secretary Dave Howcroft will be relocating from northern Ontario to serve as Windsor Raceway’s new race secretary
.
Howcroft was the voice of Barrie Raceway from 1986 to 2002 and Georgian Downs from 2002 to 2009, and he served as the back up announcer at Greenwood and Mohawk in the early 1990s. The 52-year-old resident of Innisfil, Ontario was also the race secretary at Barrie and Georgian from 1988 to 2009 and assisted with handicapping shows and writing articles for newspapers.
“I’ve got a lot of experience and background in racing,” Howcroft told Trot Insider, who currently makes a 4.5 hour trek to Windsor while in the process of relocating. “I learned pretty much everything I could from the Rowe family and Jane Rees. Jane Rees was the general manager at Barrie Raceway and part-owner at Georgian Downs. The Rowe family, they were builders of Windsor Raceway, Barrie Raceway and owners of Georgian.”
Howcroft started his race secretary stint with Windsor on April 12 and will maintain his duties for the upcoming summer meets at Dresden and Woodstock.
