Leading every step of the way, Racemup held firm to the beam to post a 1:55.4 victory in the $13,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday (April 26).
Driver Travis Henry hustled the Vic Puddy pupil off the wings from post six to the point before a :28 first quarter. Snagging a breather to a :57.3 half, Racemup faced first-over pressure from even-money favourite Pembrook Legacy N heading to the second circuit and continued to battle that challenger to three-quarters in 1:26. Pembrook Legacy N stayed alongside Racemup and continued to dig into the lead off the corner while Clever Character kicked from last with a stretch blitz after the lead. But Racemup thwarted all challengers to keep a neck in front at the beam over Clever Character, with Pembrook Legacy N taking third and Ohare Hanover finishing fourth.
A seven-year-old gelding by Whatayasay, Racemup won his fourth race from 16 starts this season and his 30th from 138 overall. He races for Gordon Mc Donald and Christopher Boland and has banked $308,630 in his career. He paid $14.30 to win.
