Odds-on favourite Tequila Monday returned to the adult table and made it look facile Friday night, easily winning Yonkers Raceway’s soggy $44,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.
Eschewing an early three-hole from post position No. 6, Tequila Monday (Matt Kakaley) went around Alexas Power (Jason Bartlett) before a moist :27.1 opening-quarter. From there, it turned into equal halves (:56.1, 1:24.2, 1:52.2), with the eventual winner taking mild grief from last week’s victress, Made Of Jewel AS (Jordan Stratton).
Tequila Monday owned a length-and-a-half lead into the lane, and ‘Alexa’ couldn’t do anything about that. The final margin was two lengths, with Lispatty (Mark MacDonald) grabbing the bottom of the ticket. Made Of Jewels AS and Dongal Rundlscrk N (Brent Holland) settled for the remainder.
For Tequila Monday, a five-year-old daughter of American Ideal co-owned by Northfork Racing & Chuck Pompey and trained by Hunter Oakes, it was her fourth win in as many seasonal starts (all at odds-on). She paid $3.70.
