Shipping in off the WEG Circuit, Miss Coco Luck prevailed in a three-across finish in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace featured on Wednesday night (April 26) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Billy Davis Jr. engineered the winning pocket trip for Miss Coco Luck, who closed along the pylons to prevail by half a length in 1:55.3, with first-over challenger Top Royal grabbing second-place honours and the popular pacesetter, Stonebridge Quest (:27.3, :57.3, 1:25.4), settling for third in between. Sent postward as the 9-2 second wagering choice, the winner returned $11.20 at the betting windows.
Miss Coco Luck, who last left the WEG Circuit in late 2014 when she was also victorious in London, Ont., notched her second win of the year from 14 starts and increased her annual income to $23,960 for trainer Blake MacIntosh and owners Dan and Kim Sergeant of Straffordville, Ont. The seven-year-old Camluck-Rambaran Star mare is now a 21-time career winner with a bankroll totalling $315,757.
The $8,300 Preferred 3 went to 4-5 favourite Gia Diamond, who took over command on the way to the 1:25.1 third quarter mark and was a confident winner in 1:55.4 in her first start out of the Richard Moreau stable. Fashion Rocker followed the winner's cover and edged past early leader Hp Sissy (:27, :56.4) to take second.
Travis Henry drove the five-year-old American Ideal-Here Comes Gala mare, who was claimed in her last start on April 13 at Mohawk Racetrack for $10,000 by La Ferme Drummond Inc. of Saint-Hugues, Que. The win was her sixth in 13 starts this year and bumped her seasonal earnings to $23,038.
In other action, trainer Daniel Kenney enjoyed a perfect night of racing with the program's biggest upset winners, Best Of Dali ($45.10) and Major Dan ($54.10), both driven by Colin Kelly for owner Gerald Schneider of Windsor, Ont.
