Muckross used a late-stretch rally to get up in the final strides to take the $30,200 Simcoe Claiming Series Final for trotters on Saturday at Georgian Downs
.
With J.R. Plante in the bike, the five-year-old trotting mare beat out the boys with her 1:58.4 triumph. Muckross tucked in behind her 3-5 entrymate Get Er Done (Paul Mackenzie) and was content to sit a pocket trip through early panels of :28.1 and :58.3.
At the halfway point, Lindy Five Hundred (Mike Langdon) moved out from third and surged up for the challenge. That one quickly made the lead and rolled past three-quarters in 1:28.3. Down the stretch, however, Muckross kicked into action and managed to get up for the win with a :29.2 final effort.
Lindy Five Hundred finished three-quarters of a length back in second with Hrs Miller Gold (Travis Bowman) coming on for third.
Muckross was claimed by owner/trainer Wilbert Weatherall in last week’s second leg for $9,000. The daughter of Tabliabue improved her seasonal record to 4-4-2 in 15 starts and doubled her earnings with the win. Muckross scored her 10th lifetime win pushing her earnings over the $100,000 plateau.
